![]() As an amage to the Screwed Up Click’s founder, DJ Screw, Trae Tha Truth unearths that grimey underground Houston sound for his mixtape ‘Another 48 Hours’. ![]() The instrumental itself has since been flipped over the years including for Drake’s So Far Gone single, ‘November 18th’. In those 35 minutes DJ Screw and his Screwed Up Click, while at DeMo’s birthday party, rapped over DJ Screw’s ‘chopped’ and ‘screwed’ sample of Kris Kross’s Da Streets Ain’t Right which sampled Biggie’s Warning, in which sampled Isaac Haye’s Walk On By. The addictive, syrupy, unique sound became an original, and DJ Screw became ‘The Originator’. It’s the day (and title) of the 35 minute track that caused a resounding earthquake through hiphop. ![]() June 27th is a historic day for the genre. More than a decade since his death, DJ Screw’s legendary sound still pulses strong through the veins of hiphop.
